Dear Eckerd College Community,
We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and so many kindnesses — large and small — you have shown us and our family in the aftermath of the tragic loss of our treasured sons, Holt and Stone Weeks.
The Nov. 20 memorial service on the Eckerd campus was a beautiful tribute to a pair of extraordinary young men. Every detail was handled sensitively and gracefully and for that we thank all of you who are responsible from the bottoms of our broken hearts.
We especially want to thank Coach Erin Koenig and the amazing Eckerd College tennis team for the memorial boulder and garden at the tennis courts. Holt was a great son and teammate and friend and that exquisite monument captures his elegance and steadfastness in a lovely and longlasting way. Thank you, too, for honoring Holt throughout the season by wearing his initials on your uniforms.
Thank you, President Donald and Christine Eastman for your leadership. You were so gracious to us in our fragile, shattered state and we are forever indebted.
Thank you, Chaplain Mona Bagasao, for organizing such a lovely memorial service. The program, the music, the photos, the readings, the speakers, the candles, the atmosphere moved us beyond words.
Thank you, Paul Montoya, Alex McDonald, Breen Eitel, Stephanie Kyle and all of Holt’s and Stone’s countless good and true friends for handling the logistics and moving friends and family to and from the service.
Thank you to the speakers, Mona Bagasao, Douglas McMahon, Harry Ellis, Hisashi Sato, Alex McDonald, Pres. Eastman, Erin Koenig, Paul Montoya and Breen Eitel for honoring Holt and Stone with beautiful words and prayers. Thank you, Catherine Smith, for your soaring song.
Thank you to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and all the students, faculty and staff of Eckerd College.
Holt loved Eckerd College and he was like the college in so many ways. He was carefree, and very caring. He was laid-back, and also serious. He celebrated individualism, and basked in camaraderie and teamwork. The spirit of Holt Weeks lives on in the spirit of Eckerd College.
For that, and all else, we are forever grateful.
Linton and Jan Taylor Weeks
